If you can believe it, it’s been 8 years since Netflix released a standalone sequel to the movie (it was the 6th anniversary when I first posted this article!). gilmore girls, Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. Fans are still asking for another season (or two), but will it ever happen? Netflix still maintains that A Year in the Life is a limited series, but the cast has teased it further over the years.
It debuted nearly a decade after the Mothership series aired on The WB. Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life was a popular follow-up Netflix miniseries in which most of the cast reappeared for the four-episode event. Since the release of that miniseries, the show has gone on hiatus again.
Over the years, we’ve had to debunk rumors and speculation from fake news sites that Netflix will produce a second season. Season 2 is typically released in November of each year, with the most talked about season being in 2021, coinciding with the limited series’ first season. Sadly, that’s still not the case, but that hasn’t stopped the cast from talking about the show and making various teases.
What are the cast and showrunners saying? Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life Season 2?
2017 was the hottest year for updates for Season 2 of Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. However, hopes were dashed when Lauren Graham and Alexis Bledel said they had no plans to return to their characters anytime soon. Amy Sherman-Palladino echoed this when speaking to Vanity Fair about the sequel in 2018, saying:
“It’s still a possibility. Everyone has been very busy. Alexis. [Bledel] Obviously very busy! It has to be the right story, the right moment. A lot went into putting it together the first time. ”
In 2021, Kelly Bishop (who plays Emily Gilmore) said it was “very unlikely” she would return to the show and said she would love to return to the role, but added:
But with four additional episodes, we’ve already completed that to some degree. And to be honest, I think it’s very unlikely that this situation will come together. Because a lot of the important actors who are participating in this production are all going their separate ways and have other projects and other things. It would have to be some sort of continuation of these four additional episodes, but I don’t see that happening. Mrs. Maisel is such a big hit and rightly so, so I don’t think Amy would be interested in it. I don’t think she would want to go back and revisit the past. We all liked it, so there might be a chance, but it doesn’t seem very likely. But for sure, I would play her again. I would love to. “

One year later, in 2022, Lauren Graham in “New Beauty”. Frankly and to the point, the magazine asked: gilmore girls I’ll be back again. Here is the complete answer provided by Graham:
“I’m making plans to meet Amy. [Sherman-Palladino]the show’s creators will release in the coming weeks. It’s always a fun prospect to think about and talk about. Before, it was just a quarrel, but now I see that it is possible. I feel a great responsibility and love for this story, so I want to make sure it’s the right time. ”
Fast forward another year to 2023, Graham told CBS when asked about the show. She replied: “In this day and age, I don’t think you can say absolutely nothing. […] There have been no formal discussions about doing it again. There’s always the fear of wanting to leave it where is best to leave it. But I don’t really know because I never thought I’d be coming back to do a Netflix movie. However, no formal discussions have taken place. ”

I don’t own Netflix gilmore girls license
It should be added that Netflix won’t keep Gilmore Girls forever and doesn’t own the underlying rights. I will explain this separately, but the main points are: gilmore girls The series is licensed to Netflix worldwide until 2026. Similarly, sequel Netflix original series are still scheduled to be available on Netflix until 2026 (10 years after they were first added to Netflix).
They could delay the revival if the rights reverted to Warner Bros. Television and they produced an exclusive season of Max, but that’s just one option.
