When Elise and Fatima arrive at the clinic, Christy is not there, so pediatric nurse Marielle (Kaelen Ohm) checks Fatima’s vitals. After the inspection is completed, Mariel concludes that Fatima is incredibly malnourished.. This is not necessarily shocking news, as the township faces severe food shortages. In fact, there are cases of severe malnutrition. can leading to tooth loss. Mariel is optimistic that with some food, Fatima’s symptoms of malnutrition will subside and Elise will feel much better. When Fatima returns to the colony house, she lingers on the porch before going inside. Several other residents collected all the rotten crops from the garden of the colony house into a wooden box on the porch. According to one resident, what can be salvaged will be composted. In a previous episode, Donna called the soil “poisoned,“So it is unlikely that composting will have any beneficial results. Still, Fatima is attracted to rotting vegetables. When she is alone, Fatima greedily collects rotten root vegetables and eats them vigorously. This disturbing scene suggests that there is something else wrong with her pregnancy.
