Daddy Yankee and Peacock have announced the release of a new documentary series entitled “Reggaeton: The Sound That Conquered the World.” The series, which will air on Peacock starting October 3, will be executive produced by Yankee and will explore the genre’s origins with commentary from some of its biggest stars.
The four-part documentary series features commentary from Bad Bunny, Ivy Queen, J Balvin, Feud Karol G, and more, and is directed by Omar Acosta. The Puerto Rican director has been nominated for four Emmy Awards and is best known for making the hip-hop documentary Mixtape.
“Reggaeton: The Sound That Conquered the World” is said to explore the evolution of the genre, from its beginnings in Puerto Rico to its current status as a cultural and commercial success in the global music industry. . Executive producers also include Simran A. Singh, Mayna Nevarez, Raffy Pina, Barak Moffitt, Alice Webb, Daniel Seliger, David Kennedy, and Nick Quested. This documentary series is produced by Mercury Studios, Saboteur Media, and El Cartel.
Daddy Yankee finished their farewell tour, La Meta (The Goal), in December, where they announced they were retiring from performing and devoting their lives to their religious faith. His first memoir, “ReaDY! The Power to Change Your Story,” will be released by HarperCollins next year.
