The Korean crime comedy thriller “I, Executioner,” a sequel to the 2015 hit “Veteran,” continued to dominate the Korean weekend box office. It earned $3.03 million in its third weekend session, surpassing the top-ranked new release “Transformers One.”
“I Am the Executioner” captured a 53% market share, according to data from Kobis, a tracking service run by the Korean Film Council (Kofic). The latest weekend increase brings the film’s cumulative box office gross to $47 million since its Sept. 13 release. This makes the film the fourth-highest grossing film of the year in the U.S., behind “Exhuma,” “The Roundup: Punishment,” and “Inside Head 2.” ”, $64 million is still a little way off.
“Transformers One” opened with $917,000 from Friday through Sunday, giving it a 16% market share, Cobis said. It grossed $1.43 million in the first five days.
The re-released “Begin Again” took third place. It grossed $269,000 over the weekend, bringing its total to $269,000, including the $21 million-plus opening sale in 2014.
“Heartspring: Teenagers of Love” remains the highest-grossing Korean animated film of all time. He earned $211,000 over the weekend, bringing his total earnings since August 3 to $7.83 million.
Ranking fifth in terms of revenue (although it is ranked 10th on local charts due to low ticket sales) was BTS member Jungkook’s concert film “Jungkook I Am Still.”
Other titles had minimal impact on the charts. In 6th place was “Bread Barbershop The Birth of the Bread Star” with $130,000, for a total of $1.3 million.
