REACHER star Alan Ritchson thanks God for saving him from suicide
By Movieguide® Contributor
REACHER star Alan Ritchson has opened up about how God rescued him from a mental health battle.
In an interview with the Christian Post, he said: I’m a fickle, stubborn, creative perfectionist who holds people to ridiculously ridiculous standards and even higher standards for myself. And I’m hard to live with. ”
In addition to faith, awareness of his conflicts helped the actor overcome them.
“The problem is that I doubt whether God is real or that He cares. “There are,” Ritchson confessed. “I thought my career was over a few years ago. I had a suicidal encounter and tried to take my own life. Thank God I wasn’t successful.”
He credits his family, doctors, and most importantly, his faith with contributing to his recovery.
“My family supported me, some doctors supported me, and I was able to get help and get through it,” Ritchson recalled. “But then I had to find out what meaning and purpose looked like. And that looked like serving others and having a real relationship with God.” I did.”
Mr. Ritchson ended the interview with the following encouragement: Maybe it will save someone else from suicide. I thought, “I’ll probably never work in this industry again.” And lo and behold, God says, “I’m going to give you the most insane career you can imagine.” I continue to strive to honor him, and it has been a true gift. ”
Ritchson now frequently uses his platform to glorify Christ. He sometimes hosts ‘Instachurch’ on his social media where he talks about his faith.
In a video last month, he explained why he chose to play Reacher, despite the character being morally ambiguous.
“It’s funny how so many people are criticizing me, especially people who seem to be Christians, criticizing me for playing Reacher,” he said. “As if watching people silently join hands in church pews was the only thing that television should exist for. What kind of stories should we tell? When we look at the Bible, Do you see how an infinitely holy God has been in tension with humans for millennia to reveal who He is? Make it.”
He has also appeared in faith-based content, most recently on ORDINARY ANGELS.
“It’s as important as the hurting individual to be willing to receive help,” Ritchson told MovieGuide® about the film’s theme. “Many of us like to think we’re not worth that. Yeah, let’s wait until I’m clean and worthy of accepting help, which completely defeats the purpose.”
Movieguide® reported on the latest addition to Ritchson’s resume:
REACHER’s Alan Ritchson and The King of Queens frontman Kevin James will co-star in the new action comedy “PLAYDATE”.
According to Collider, “The film chronicles the story of Brian (James), a man facing difficult circumstances who recently lost his job and is forced into the role of full-time father to his 10-year-old son. On his first day in this new role, he agrees to a playdate with Jeff (Ritchson), another father who spends his days at home, but surprisingly turns out to be a wild card. Two fathers and their sons spend the day avoiding dangerous plots.”
Ritchson shared the news on social media. “I’ve been wanting to get back into comedy for a few years now and have been looking for the right script,” he wrote. “Not only did we find the perfect script, but we’re thrilled to partner with comedy legend @kevinjamesofficial and filmmaker extraordinaire @mr.lukeg.”
“This is going to be fun. A buddy action comedy with unexpected twists, vibrant characters, and lots of heart,” Ritchson concluded.
