Simu Liu is willing to let Marvel decide his fate.
The 34-year-old actor is set to reprise his role as Shang-Chi in the 2021 Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) sequel to Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. And that’s the studio’s call when it comes to his superhero work.
Asked about his position in the Marvel setting, Sim told ComicBook.com:
“I mean, these things are way above my pay grade. I just want to continue to be a fan of that. You know, when I get the call, I’m like, ‘Hey, this is your position. This is the place.” “You’re going to show up. And this is when you need a power outage.” That’s what tends to happen in general. ”
No release date has been set for the Shang-Chi sequel yet, but Sim has full confidence that returning director Destin Daniel Cretton will do a “great job” with the film.
The “Barbie” actor said: “Destin is a very special filmmaker and we’re thrilled to have him in the sequel. So he’s going to be working on it and we’re looking forward to seeing what he comes up with. I’m really looking forward to seeing it.” I think he’ll do a great job.”
Director Sim previously said he was relaxed about the sequel, as the success of the first film proved that audiences were interested in the character.
Liu, the first Asian star to lead an MCU blockbuster, told Collider, “Generally, you’re under the most pressure when something is unproven. There are very high stakes. At first. When I shot the movie, I remember thinking, “It’s okay.” We’re basically building this character every day. ”
“With a $10 billion movie budget, the stakes couldn’t have been higher. I think the pressure is highest under those circumstances.”
