“Transmexico,” “The Edge of Everything” and “Andragogy” are among the winners of the 39th Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
With a mission to discover and showcase “the best independent and international films,” SBIFF has become one of the nation’s premier film festivals, screening approximately 10 films in a jam-packed week with more than 200 films scheduled to screen. It attracts millions of participants.
Leslie Chilcott, Alex Keredian, Chris Landon, Rael Loewenstein, Jacqueline Lianga, David Magdael, Gail Mancuso, Greg Nava, Pituka Ortega Heilbron, Carla Renata, Gil Robertson, Ondi A panel of judges, including Timoner and Clay Tuell, selected the winners. And Ali Wolf.
“We are extremely grateful to our dedicated panel of judges for their excellent selection,” SBIFF Programming Director Claudia Puig said in a statement. “The winning films tell stories from around the world, from the magic of movie theaters in the Atacama Desert to the surprising mysteries of Antarctica’s ice caves to the social dangers of Indonesia’s cancel culture. All with enthusiasm and originality. It’s a fascinating story to tell, and we at SBIFF are thrilled to congratulate this year’s Jury Award winners.”
The Santa Barbara International Film Festival ran from February 7th to 17th, and included official events throughout the city, including screenings, Q&As with filmmakers, industry panels, and celebrity memorials.
The winners were announced Saturday at a ceremony at the El Encanto Hotel in Santa Barbara.
