The $30 million heist from a Los Angeles storage facility — which looks like an outtake from Ocean’s Eleven — remains a mystery to investigators, but investigators say the lead-up to the heist occurred inside the building. Focuses on multiple misinformation.
TMZ has filed a police report at the Gardaworld money storage facility in the San Fernando Valley. The building was robbed on Easter Sunday, but it turned out there was heavy police activity there.
Records obtained by TMZ show police have visited Gardaworld more than a dozen times in the past year, most of which turned out to be false alarms.
Of the 13 calls reported to Gardaworld premises prior to the March 31 robbery, 12 were recorded as raised alarms and treated as false alarms.
On July 7, 2023, only one call came in about a possible robbery…but it turned out to be a false alarm. Interestingly, the alarm call was also received on March 30th, the day before the break-in.
Records also show that the trigger for the March 30th alert was a false alarm.
On the day of the robbery… there were 3 calls for service and those were also reported as having triggered alarms, one of which was definitely legitimate. It was then that authorities realized that millions of dollars had been stolen from one of the safes.
Law enforcement officials say all such calls for facility alerts have come to the attention of federal authorities and are being investigated as part of the investigation. We have heard that the Garda World building had staffing issues prior to the robbery…including insufficient security on site, which is another issue under the microscope.
Clearly, whoever did this was sophisticated enough to know when to attack and how to escape undetected. Because at this time, police have not made any arrests or even named suspects.
